Adoption drain survey (s.104)

Survey of new drainage prior to adoption by a sewerage undertaker under section 104.

An adoption drain survey is a CCTV inspection and watertightness check carried out on new drainage before adoption by the sewerage undertaker, in Greater London usually Thames Water, under section 104 of the Water Industry Act 1991. The survey demonstrates that the new pipes, chambers and connections meet the design specification and Sewers for Adoption guidance, and that defects are limited and within acceptance criteria. Engineers carry out the inspection to BS EN 13508-2, grading any defects against the WRc Manual of Sewer Condition Classification, and combine the results with pressure or air tests under BS EN 1610. The output forms part of the technical submission to Thames Water and supports formal adoption of the system, transferring ongoing maintenance responsibility to the sewerage undertaker. The work is carried out by qualified engineers.
