Pumping station service

Planned inspection and maintenance of a foul or surface water pumping station.

Pumping station servicing is the planned inspection, cleaning and maintenance of submersible foul or surface water pumping installations serving low-level basements, mews properties and developments where gravity drainage is not possible. A typical service includes inspection of pump impellers, cleaning of the wet well, calibration of float switches and ultrasonic level controls, testing of non-return valves and verification of telemetry and alarm signals. Twin pump installations should be exercised to confirm both duty and standby operate correctly. In England and Wales, foul pumping stations serving more than one property are usually adopted by Thames Water under section 102 of the Water Industry Act 1991. Maintenance frequency varies, but quarterly visits are common in commercial and multi-residential settings.
