Back-to-wall toilet

Toilet pan that sits flush against a wall hiding pipework with a separate concealed cistern.

A back-to-wall toilet has a floor-mounted pan that sits flush against the wall, concealing the soil pipe and water connections within the wall or a furniture unit behind. The cistern is hidden inside a stud wall or vanity unit and operated by a flush plate. UK products follow BS EN 997 for pans and BS EN 14055 for cisterns, with flush volumes regulated under Building Regulations Part G. Back-to-wall configurations are particularly popular in modern London bathrooms because they offer a tidy appearance without the structural alteration needed for a wall-hung design. Access to the cistern for future maintenance is provided through a removable flush plate. Care is needed when sealing around the base to prevent water ingress into the floor structure.
