Compression fitting repair is the replacement or re-tightening of a leaking compression joint on copper, chromed or plastic pipework, typically on internal plumbing runs serving radiators, basins and isolation valves. The fitting uses a brass body, nut and olive, which compresses onto the pipe when the nut is tightened to form a seal. Repair usually involves draining the section, undoing the fitting, replacing the olive and any worn body, and re-tightening to the manufacturer's torque. Excess tightening can crush the olive and cause further leaks. Work on hot and cold water supplies must comply with Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 and, where notification is required, with the Watersafe scheme operated by the approved contractor.
