A conservation area drain survey is a CCTV inspection and drainage assessment carried out within a designated conservation area, adapted to the constraints of working sensitively in a historic setting. Many of London's conservation areas, including parts of Camden, Islington, Hampstead and Westminster, contain Victorian and Edwardian terraces with original clay drains that need careful handling. Engineers carry out the survey to BS EN 13508-2 using mainly no-dig techniques such as push rod or crawler CCTV, grading defects against the WRc Manual of Sewer Condition Classification. The findings support repair planning under BS EN ISO 11296 with a preference for cured-in-place lining and other trenchless methods, reducing disturbance to historic surfaces. The report supports planning consent applications and any related Building Regulations Part H submissions for alterations.
