Drain rehabilitation

Programme of works that restores a drain to acceptable structural and hydraulic performance.

Drain rehabilitation refers to a planned set of interventions that restore a deteriorated drainage system to acceptable structural and hydraulic performance, rather than dealing with one isolated defect. Typical works combine high-pressure jetting, root cutting, descaling, CIPP lining, patch repairs, manhole rehabilitation and infiltration sealing. The scope is informed by a coded CCTV survey carried out in accordance with the WRc Manual of Sewer Condition Classification, allowing engineers to grade structural and service defects. On Thames Water adopted sewers in central London, rehabilitation is generally preferred over excavation to limit highway disruption. The end goal is to extend the useful life of the asset by 30 to 50 years without the cost, traffic management and reinstatement burden of full replacement.
