Electro-mechanical drain cleaning

Powered cable machine that rotates a cutting head to clear drain blockages.

Electro-mechanical drain cleaning uses an electric motor to rotate a steel cable fitted with cutters, augers or chain heads inside the pipe. The cable is fed from a drum or sectional housing and the rotating head shreds roots, hardened debris and compacted blockages that water jetting alone may not shift. Machines range from compact 8mm cables for 32mm to 50mm waste pipes up to heavy 22mm cables for 150mm to 225mm drains. The technique is particularly useful in confined indoor spaces in London flats where a full jetting setup will not fit. Operators must follow HSE guidance on rotating machinery and wear cut-resistant gloves, as cable whip and finger trap injuries are the main risks associated with this equipment.
