Macerating toilet (Saniflo)

Toilet with a built-in macerator and pump for connection to small bore pressurised pipework.

A macerating toilet has an integrated macerator and pump that grind solids into a slurry and push the resulting flow through small bore pressurised pipework to the main soil stack. They are widely used to install additional bathrooms in lofts, basements and rear extensions of London properties where gravity drainage to the soil stack is not practical. UK installations follow Building Regulations Part H1 and Part G, with at least one conventional WC connected to a gravity drain usually required elsewhere on the property. Saniflo and similar units are sensitive to wipes, sanitary products and harsh cleaning chemicals, which are common causes of failure. Regular descaling and inspection by a competent engineer help maintain reliability. Replacement parts and authorised servicing are widely available from manufacturers across Greater London.
