Soakaway repair

Restoration of a failed soakaway to acceptable surface water disposal performance.

Soakaway repair restores the capacity of a failed surface water soakaway, often by removing accumulated silt, replacing collapsed crates or relaying perforated pipework. A blocked soakaway typically presents as standing water in a garden, overflow at the gully or rainwater backing up in the downpipes. Engineers usually carry out a CCTV survey of the inlet pipe and a percolation test in accordance with BRE Digest 365 to confirm that ground conditions remain suitable. On many London clay sites, soakaways have a limited service life and repair may be a temporary measure ahead of full replacement. Works are typically completed in one to three days, depending on size, access and the volume of silt to be removed and disposed of as controlled waste.
