Yard gully unblocking

Clearance of a yard or area drainage gully and its outlet to restore drainage.

Yard gully unblocking is the clearance of an external surface water gully and the short connection pipe that takes water away to the soakaway or surface water drain. Typical obstructions include leaves, silt, moss, hair, food waste and items dropped through the grating. Engineers usually lift the cover, remove debris by hand or by suction, then rod or jet the outlet to verify free flow. Recurring blockages in a North London side return often indicate a fractured outlet pipe or a partially collapsed soakaway. The work typically takes 30 to 90 minutes per gully and includes safe disposal of the silt and debris as controlled waste in line with the Environmental Protection (Duty of Care) Regulations 1991.
