A branch drain survey is a CCTV inspection of a branch drain, typically a smaller pipe running from a single appliance or small group of fittings into the main soil stack or drain run. The survey uses a push rod camera, given the smaller diameter, with the inspection carried out to BS EN 13508-2 and defects graded against the WRc Manual of Sewer Condition Classification. The work is widely used in Greater London to investigate recurring blockages affecting a single fitting, leaks beneath floors in flats, and damp issues against external walls where a kitchen or bathroom waste pipe runs nearby. Engineers report any defects with location and severity, supporting targeted repair under BS EN 12056 or replacement of short sections of waste pipework. The output also informs Building Regulations Part H compliance for any alterations.
