Polyester resin (CIPP)

Cost-effective thermoset resin commonly used in glass-reinforced UV CIPP liners.

Polyester resin is the most widely used thermoset polymer for CIPP drainage rehabilitation in the UK, providing a cost-effective combination of strength and durability for general surface water and foul applications. The material is commonly paired with glass-fibre reinforced liners cured by ultraviolet light to form a jointless structural pipe within the host. UK installations follow BS EN ISO 11296-4 and Water UK recommended practices. Polyester resin can emit a noticeable styrene odour during installation, which usually dissipates as the cure completes. On post-installation inspection, the liner presents a pale glossy interior with consistent thickness. While suitable for most domestic and adopted drainage applications across London, polyester is generally avoided in food production and pharmaceutical premises where odour and trace residue are operational concerns.
