A recycler is a combined jet vac tanker fitted with on-board filtration that allows recovered wastewater to be reused as the jetting supply, sometimes called a closed-loop unit. The water passes through multi-stage filters and cyclones before being returned to the jetter pump, greatly reducing the need to refill from hydrants. Recyclers are particularly valuable for long sewer cleaning shifts in central London where access to bulk water supplies is limited and discharge to hydrants by tanker is time-consuming. The technique reduces water consumption by 70 to 90% compared with conventional combination units. Operators must still comply with Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 for any top-up from a mains source, and with the Water Jetting Association Code of Practice for jet vac working.
