Confined space tripod

Frame positioned over a chamber for safe entry, exit and emergency rescue.

A confined space tripod is a three-legged adjustable aluminium or steel frame positioned over a chamber entry to provide a fixed anchor point for fall arrest and rescue equipment. The tripod is rated for the loads imposed by the operator, the lifting winch and any rescue equipment, typically conforming to EN 795 and EN 1496. Engineers attach a man-riding winch and an inertia reel fall arrester to the top pulley before any entry into the chamber. Use of a tripod is a standard control measure under the Confined Space Regulations 1997 and the Work at Height Regulations 2005. Tripods are inspected before each use, with annual thorough examination by a competent person and certification kept with the equipment.
