A scraper drain rod tip is a flat-bladed or shovel-shaped fitting that screws onto a Lockfast rod set and is used to scrape hardened scale, mortar spillage or other deposits from the pipe wall. The tip is rotated against the deposit and worked along the pipe to remove material, with debris flushed downstream by water flow. Scraper tips are particularly useful in cast iron drains where rust tubercles form on the wall and gradually restrict flow. They are not suitable for clay pipework, where excessive force can chip or fracture the host pipe. Operators should always carry a CCTV camera to verify the result, and routine after-use cleaning and inspection of the tip is essential to prevent debris carryover between jobs.
