Drain rod tip (corkscrew)

Auger-style screw fitting on a drain rod for grabbing soft blockages.

A corkscrew rod tip is a spiral screw fitting that attaches to the end of a Lockfast or compatible drain rod set and is rotated into a soft blockage to grip and extract material. It is particularly useful for cloth, paper and root mass blockages that cannot be cleared by water alone. The tip is rotated clockwise to engage the blockage and the entire rod set then carefully withdrawn from the chamber. Force should be applied gradually since over-rotation can break the rod couplings. Corkscrew tips are widely carried in van packs as a first response tool for domestic London foul drains. Tips should be inspected for bent or worn flutes between jobs, as a damaged screw will not engage soft material reliably.
