Mop sink (cleaner’s sink)

Low sink used for filling buckets and emptying mop water in commercial settings.

A mop sink, also known as a cleaner's sink, is a low floor or wall-mounted sink used in commercial and institutional buildings for filling buckets, washing mops and emptying dirty cleaning water. UK products follow general sanitary fitting standards under BS EN 695 and are commonly made from glazed fireclay, stainless steel or polypropylene. Wastes are typically 50mm or 75mm, larger than domestic sinks, to handle the silt and grit common in cleaning water. Installation must comply with Building Regulations Part H1 and Part G and the Water Supply Fittings Regulations 1999, often including backflow protection on the tap if a hose is regularly attached. Mop sinks are widely fitted in cleaner's cupboards in office buildings, schools and hospitals across Greater London.
