A urinal is a wall-mounted sanitary fitting used by men in commercial, public and institutional washrooms, supplied by water from an overhead cistern or sensor activated flush valve and discharged through a waste and trap. UK urinals are manufactured to BS EN 13407, with bowl, slab and trough configurations available for differing levels of demand. Installation must comply with Building Regulations Part G and Part H1, and the Water Supply Fittings Regulations 1999, including controls to limit unnecessary flushing in line with water efficiency requirements. Waterless urinals using sealed cartridges are increasingly used in London office buildings and public venues to reduce water consumption. Regular maintenance is essential to prevent the build-up of uric salts and resulting odour problems, particularly in high traffic settings.
