Bath

Large sanitary fitting for bathing supplied by taps and discharged through a waste and trap.

A bath is a large sanitary fitting in which the user can recline for bathing, with taps providing hot and cold water and a waste and trap conveying used water to the drainage system. UK baths are manufactured to BS EN 232 in materials such as acrylic, steel and cast iron, with standard lengths from 1500mm to 1800mm. Installation must comply with Building Regulations Part H1 for waste, Part G for water supply and Part M for accessibility. Common configurations include single ended, double ended, corner and shower baths with curved or panelled shapes. Replacement of cast iron baths in upper floors of older London terraces requires careful structural assessment due to their weight. A flexible bath connector and adjustable trap simplify final connection within the limited space under the rim.
