Pipe deburring tool

Tool used to remove burrs and chamfer the cut end of a drainage pipe.

A pipe deburring tool is a small hand tool used to remove the sharp burrs and chamfer the cut end of a drainage pipe before assembly. PVC-U, polypropylene and HDPE pipes all require deburring after cutting to ensure that ring seals are not damaged during push-fit assembly. The tool consists of a tapered or shaped blade that is rotated against the pipe end to chamfer the leading edge and remove the inside burr. Failure to deburr is a common cause of leaking push-fit joints, particularly on 110mm soil pipe assemblies in domestic London plumbing. The tool is inexpensive and lasts many years if kept clean and dry, and is part of any drainage engineer's standard van pack toolkit alongside cutters and jointing lubricant.
