Stainless steel pipe

Corrosion-resistant steel pipe used in commercial drainage and specialist applications.

Stainless steel pipe is a corrosion-resistant ferrous material used for commercial drainage, industrial waste handling, food preparation and laboratory applications. The pipe is manufactured to BS EN 1124 for drainage and is typically supplied in grade 304 or, where chloride exposure is a concern, grade 316. Joints are usually made by push-fit with elastomeric seals, mechanical couplings or welding for fixed installations. Stainless steel is identifiable by its bright, polished or brushed exterior and consistent wall thickness. While rarely encountered in domestic drainage, the pipe is regularly specified in central London restaurant fit-outs, healthcare premises and high-specification commercial bathrooms. The material offers a long service life and full recyclability, although unit costs are significantly higher than PVC-U or cast iron alternatives.
