WRc condition grading

Industry standard scheme that grades drain defects from 1 (minor) to 5 (severe).

WRc condition grading is the industry standard scheme for classifying defects observed in drains and sewers during CCTV inspection, set out in the WRc Manual of Sewer Condition Classification. Defects are coded by type, location and severity, then summarised as a service condition grade or a structural condition grade on a scale from 1 to 5, with 1 representing minor or negligible defects and 5 representing very severe or imminent failure. The grading provides a consistent, objective basis for prioritising remedial action and is used by Thames Water, sewerage adoption schemes under Sewers for Adoption and private surveyors across London. CCTV surveys carried out in accordance with BS EN 13508-2 use the grading to produce clear written reports that support repair planning, asset management and insurance claims.
