Mini excavator (1.5 to 3 tonne)

Small tracked excavator used for drainage trenching and chamber excavation.

A mini excavator is a small tracked machine, typically 1.5 to 3 tonnes operating weight, with a rotating cab and hydraulic boom used to dig drainage trenches, chamber excavations and reinstatement preparation. The size band fits through standard 1-metre gateways, making it ideal for the side returns and small rear gardens of London terraces and semis. Operators must hold a Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) or NPORS card for the machine class. Daily start-up checks cover hydraulic oil, tracks, hoses and quick-hitch security, with weekly maintenance carried out in accordance with the manufacturer's schedule. Use on the highway requires plant traffic management under Chapter 8 and CDM 2015 documentation. Hire packages typically include delivery, fuel and operator on site for the day.
