Pedestal basin

A pedestal basin is a wash basin supported by a matching ceramic pedestal that conceals the trap, waste pipe and supply pipework. The pedestal also helps spread the weight of the basin and the user's hands onto the floor, although the basin itself is usually fixed back to the wall as well for stability. UK basins and pedestals follow BS EN 14688 dimensional and performance standards. Pedestal basins remain a traditional choice in family bathrooms across the UK, including many London properties, because they are familiar in appearance and straightforward to install. Semi-pedestal versions allow the floor below the basin to be visible, providing easier cleaning. Installation typically involves a 32mm waste pipe with P-trap and chrome-plated supply pipework where it remains partially visible.
