A tipper truck is a road-going vehicle with a hydraulically raised body used to remove excavated material, broken pipework, silt and other bulky waste from drainage sites. Common sizes range from 3.5 tonne chassis cab tippers used for residential side-access works in London to 18 or 32 tonne articulated units used for highway excavations. Drivers must hold the appropriate licence category and the company must be registered as a waste carrier with the Environment Agency under the Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011. Waste must be transported to a permitted reception facility, with a waste transfer note completed and retained for at least two years. In central London, additional restrictions include the Direct Vision Standard for HGVs and the Low Emission Zone requirements.
