Camera tractor crawler

Self-propelled wheeled or tracked camera used to inspect large diameter sewers.

A camera tractor crawler is a self-propelled, remotely controlled wheeled or tracked unit fitted with a high-resolution pan-tilt-rotate camera used to survey large diameter sewers from 150mm up to 1,500mm or more. The unit is fed from a cable reel and driven from a control unit in the works van, with full digital video and stills capture, lateral measurement and integrated sonde location. Crawlers are widely used by contractors carrying out planned condition surveys on Thames Water adopted sewers across Greater London. Operators must be trained on the specific make of unit in accordance with PUWER 1998 and must follow the WRc Manual of Sewer Condition Classification for coding observed defects. Equipment is calibrated periodically and lenses cleaned between jobs to maintain image quality.
