A shower screen is a glass or plastic panel installed beside a bath or shower tray to prevent water splashing into the rest of the bathroom. UK shower screens are manufactured in toughened safety glass to BS EN 12150, fixed in chrome or aluminium frames or as frameless designs with stainless steel fittings. Hinged and folding versions allow the screen to be folded out of the way when bathing children. Installation requires accurate setting of the screen plumb against the wall and adequate sealing at all junctions to prevent water tracking into the wall structure. Listed buildings or conservation areas in central London may require sympathetic styling. Glass screens must always be installed with appropriate brackets and seals, and damaged panels should be replaced promptly with toughened glass.
